Power, Beauty, Soul: Aston Martin
Notorious for being the favoured car of 007, James Bond, Aston Martin has propelled itself into mainstream culture. It’s quaint British design means that these beautiful pieces of automotive brilliance are understated and yet brutal. And that’s what I love about them.
Aston Martin’s are all elegantly designed to look beautiful from every angle possible, even in the cabin where other super car manufacturers can’t even compete. Trust me, I’ve been in most of them – Ferrari, Bentley, Porsche, Mercedes, Lexus, Rolls Royce, you name it, I’ve seen it – and NONE compare.
Pure design perfection in my honest opinion. No car matches the attention to detail. If one stitch on the leather is 1mm out, it gets re-done. The paint work is done by hand because machines just aren’t as good. And finally, each and every car is individually inspected and sealed with the quality controller’s personal seal.
From the quirky dials on the dash (they go in opposite directions), to the beautifully aligned centre console, and the glass key that turns into the ignition start button, it really is difficult for me to think of a better car to drive around town. Forget the Ferraris, if you want the best of British, you want an Aston.

And it doesn’t stop there. If you require more than two seats, try the Aston Martin Rapide – the 4 door super-car, best in its class. Or maybe you have £1.4m to spare, in that case go for the Aston Martin One-77, the hyper-car rivalling Bugatti’s infamous Veyron.
It’s been my personal ambition to own an Aston Martin since I saw the DB9 driven by Pierce Brosnan and one day, the first minute I can afford one, I’ll be heading down to the dealers. Currently, my eyes are bestowed on the Virage, the £150,000 grand tourer, deemed to be the DB9 successor, which again is just automotive perfection. I was lucky enough to drive one and it goes off the line like there’s no tomorrow.
Imagine it, the sound of the engine roaring in the background, the smell of the finest leather, the grip of the Alcantara steering wheel, and the ability to hit 180mph by just applying the tiniest amount of pressure below your right foot.
As you drive by, pedestrians and fellow drivers stare at the car. It’s immense beauty catches their eye. You’re not displaying the arrogance you get in a Lambo, or the ferocious power from a Ferrari, it’s more respect – Aston Martin’s portray a charm, much akin to the one Mr Bond resonates.
They truly are every bit about the Power, Beauty and Soul.
