Golden Globes x Ricky Gervais x Idris Elba

Its award season in Hollywood and as a TV fan it’s interesting to see what the Americans are raving. This year 2 new shows have already been added to my long list of things to watch, Suits and New Girl (which adds to House MD, Games of Throne, The Mentalist, Luther, Sherlock, Mad Men, Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory, Boardwalk Empire, Spartacus, Hustle).

Once again funny man Ricky Gervais hosted the show and his opening monologue raised eyebrows all round, he’s never shy to break the ice is he? Not as controversial as last years monologue but was still pretty hilarious and a few awkward laughs were apparent.

The British crew were in full force with Kate Winslet winning a best actress nod for a TV mini-series however for me personally the biggest winner was Idris Elba finally gaining  some well deserved recognition for his amazing performances for Luther. Known mostly to Americans as Stringer Bell for his hit role in crime drama The Wire, its good to see he has received recognition for his acting skills and rumours of his being the Daniel Craig replacement have also resurfaced.

For those that haven’t seen Luther im not sure where you have been! It is definitely one of the best dramas the UK has produced over the last few years. I’m sure you can catch it on one of the dozens of streaming sites there are.

Peace Out…
